Water Reservoirs

A water reservoir is a manmade lake outlined by the construction of dams and barriers. However, these inland loch iterations tend to struggle with the same exact assortment of pollution and contamination issues, the vast majority of which stem from human activity.

The Detriments of Mankind
Every naturally occurring body of water features a precise balance with regard to its PH content, salinity, and chemical composition, but these salient characteristics are entirely susceptible to mankind’s carelessness. From stormwater runoff, which contains copious amounts of pesticides and fertilizers, to the incessant burning of oil, gas, and coal during land-based industrial activities, humans inadvertently wreak havoc on lagoons and water reservoirs on a consistent basis.

The Effects of Thoughtlessness
Even minor pollution can throw an ecosystem into a state of entropic deterioration, and it doesn’t take long for the following effects to become apparent:
 

• Pathogenic bacteria flourishes and begins killing off local flora.
• Toxins and sediments collect at the bottom of reservoirs, which suffocates water-based plants and bottom-dwelling organisms.
• Eutrophication causes various plants to grow in excess, which decreases the available oxygen for other living creatures.
• The anthropogenic chemicals released into lagoons and reservoirs causes harm to endocrine systems of countless forms of wildlife, oftentimes leading to the extinction of certain species.
